Description
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy is an intervention service that addresses issues with speech, language, and swallowing. Speech therapists, also known as Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs), are the professionals who provide these services involving language comprehension and expression, including nonverbal communication. The work of a speech therapist extends beyond assisting the child in producing sounds (articulation, fluency, resonance) for words and sentence formation to treating other types of spoken and written language problems, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and auditory processing disorder, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties. A child may be an early reader with excellent pronunciation skills but may still require speech therapy to improve the ability to use verbal and body language appropriately in social situations for everyday purposes, such as making requests, conversing, and building relationships.
If your child is having trouble pronouncing and understanding age-appropriate words and instructions, it is best to get an assessment. Early intervention will result in better speech and language development as well as the social well-being of your child. After a detailed assessment, we will assign you a SLP who will devise an individualised speech program for your child.
